You don’t have to live in Boulder, Colo., or Kauai, Hawaii, to enjoy the outdoors to the fullest. Realtor.com® scoured the country to help home shoppers find the nation’s outdoor meccas.
For its rankings, realtor.com® researchers limited the results to metros with median home prices under $300,000. (That’s why many locations out West did not make the list.) They also took into account the number of national parks within a four-hour drive; number of state parks or beaches within a one-hour drive; restaurants with outdoor seating; annual months of mild weather (daily highs between 60 and 80 degrees); and bicycle friendliness.
The following cities topped its list as offering the best outdoor enclaves:
1. Greenville, S.C.
- Median home price: $265,500
2. Pittsburgh
- Median home price: $175,000
3. Morgantown, W.V.
- Median home price: $226,500
4. Greensboro, N.C.
